Unequal Distribution of Ions in a Collodion Cell

چکیده

The properties of dry collodion membranes previously described allow the prediction that cells of these membranes will concentrate solutes under certain conditions. Three such cases have been studied experimentally. 1. A membrane containing thiosulphate and immersed in a solution of iodine concentrates iodide ion. 2. A membrane containing sodium chromate and immersed in mercury chloride concentrates chloride ion. 3. A membrane containing calcium carbonate and immersed in acetic acid concentrates acetate ions.

On the Location of the Forces Which Determine the Electrical Double Layer between Collodion Particles and Water

1. The cataphoretic P.D. of suspended particles is assumed to be due to an excess in the concentration of one kind of a pair of oppositely charged ions in the film of water enveloping the particles and this excess is generally ascribed to a preferential adsorption of this kind of ions by the particle. The term adsorption fails, however, to distinguish between the two kinds of forces which can b...

The Reversal of the Sign of the Charge of Collodion Membranes by Trivalent

The reversal of the sign of charge of collodion membranes (treated previously with a protein) by hydrogen ions has been discussed in a preceding paper 1 and in this paper the influence of trivalent cations on the reversal will be considered. We shall omit the discussion of the action of tetravalent cations (e.g. ThC14) since their soiutions have so high a concentration of hydrogen ions that thi...

A Rare Case Report of a Collodion Baby with Severe Hypernatremia

Background: Collodion baby is a rare condition (i.e., 1:300000 birth), which is referred to a neonate covered with a tight and shiny membrane desquamating within two weeks. This condition takes place as a result of the epidermal cornification disorder. Given the impairment of the skin barrier function, these neonates are at the risk of several complications, including hypernatremic dehydration,...

A simple apparatus for the estimation of the diffusible fraction of calcium in serum.

This is a modification of the method of Updegraff, Greenberg, and Clark (1926) which depends upon the diffusion under reduced pressure of calcium ions in serum through a collodion sac into water. The calcium in the diffusate is estimated by the method of Clark and Collip (1925) and a correction applied for the diffusible ions which remain in the sac on the establishment of equilibrium. Apparatus
